Paradise of fisher in the Dolomites - Trentino

A holiday at the Hotel Relais Orsingher is perfect for those who dream of fishing in the spectacular natural setting of San Martino di Castrozza, Primiero e Vanoi, in the shelter of the mythical Pale di San Martino, in alpine lakes or in torrents in which dart brown and marbled trout, brook trout, grayling, chub, minnows and millers’ thumb.

100 kilometres of torrent and 130 hectares of lake constitute an irresistible and magical paradise even for the most demanding fisherman, in territory that has been under the protection of the Parco Naturale Paneveggio -Pale di San Martino for more than thirty years.

The waters, the only case in all of Trentino, fall into the category of first class quality (quality determined by the biological method EBI).  Fishing is managed under the rules of the Carta Ittica of the Autonomous Province of Trento and is based on criteria for protection of the environment and fishing.

The Amateur Fishing Association  Alto Cismon Primiero has built its own Fishing Centre in the area of  Spini di Imèr, where indigenous species of brown and marbled trout are selected and grown, to be introduced into the managed waters.

There are three categories of fishing area: normal, special and no kill.  The special areas, subject to various limitations, include the running waters more suited to natural reproduction.  The no kill zone is at the intersection of the Cismon and Canali Torrents in Fiera di Primieo. Further information is available at www.pescatoriprimiero.it.

Our suggestions about fishing:

• Places to fish: from among the different possibilities, we suggest some particularly scenic spots: the Vanoi Torrent (the area upstream from the Caoria hydro-electric plant and the tract of the Val Cortella), the Cismon Torrent (downstream at the intersection with the Noana Torrent), the artificial lake of Val Noana, Lake Calaita, the artificial lake of the Val Schenèr.
• Introduction to fishing: during summer months, visits are organised to the Centro Ittico Sociale of the Fishing Association Alto Cismon in the area of Spini di Imèr. An expert fishing warden will illustrate fish of the mountains, rearing techniques  and the extraordinary world of the water.
• A few kilometres from Fiera di Primiero you will find two enchanting places for an afternoon dedicated to sport-fishing (without the need for a licence).  At Refavaie, Caoria in the Vanoi Valley and in the Val del Lozen, two spectacular lakes await you with all that is needed to put you to the fishing test.
